D. Nutarelli et al., GAMMA-RAYS PRODUCTION BY INTRACAVITY COMPTON BACK SCATTERING WITH SUPER-ACO STORAGE-RING FREE-ELECTRON LASER, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section A, Accelerators, spectrometers, detectors and associated equipment, 407(1-3), 1998, pp. 459-463
High-energy gamma-photons have been produced by an intra-cavity Compto
n Back Scattering (GBS) process between the Super-AGO Storage Ring Fre
e Electron Laser, at 350 nm, and an ultra-relativistic (800 MeV) posit
ron bunch. No spatial selection of the beam has been made so a wide en
ergy range of gamma-photons has been directly (NaI detector) and indir
ectly (CBS positrons bunch life-time) investigated. The high intra-cav
ity laser power leads to a high gamma-photons emission rate (5 million
s ph/s). Some future possible improvements are proposed. (C) 1998 Else
