Abstract
The possibility of obtaining anomalous electron emission from thin fer roelectric films is investigated and the emission characteristics are compared with those of bulk samples. The results presented indicate th at anomalous electron emission may only be observed in nonlinear diele ctrics (i.e., those exhibiting ferroelectric instability). The sensiti vity of the anomalous electron emission to perovskite structural eleme nts in thin films with a pyrochlore structure is discussed. (C) 1997 A merican Institute of Physics.
