Au-thiol aggregates composed of Au multiply twinned particles (MTPs) a
nd propionicacidthiolates were produced and named an MTP-micelle. The
nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrum of the MTP-micelle shows tha
t most of the propionicacidthiolates seem to form dimers (disulfides)
on the Au MTP surface. Transmission electron microscope (TEM) images s
how that most of the core Au particles are MTPs, but truncated MTP str
uctures are partly observed. This observation predicts the creation of
a fullerene-like particle structure by the thiolates-adsorption metho
d. The average size of the MTP-micelles is 70 Angstrom, which is confi
rmed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) image. (C) 1998 Elsevier
