High resolution optical spectroscopy, low resolution infrared spectros
copy and UBVRI-JHK photometry of the poorly studied symbiotic star V 9
19 Sgr are presented. Basic systemic properties are discussed. Puzzlin
g large amplitude infrared variability is demonstrated. The available
data do not firmly establish that the star underwent an outburst in 19
91 but the behaviour of its high excitation lines and blue continuum m
imics classical symbiotic outbursts.
