A rapid, accurate, and sensitive method hasbeen developed for the quan
titative determination of hydrochlorothiazide (HCT), an antihypertensi
ve-diuretic agent. A Nucleosil C-18 100x4.6 mn 5 mu m analytical colum
n was used with a mixture of CH3CN-1% acetic acid, at a volume ratio 2
0:80. Detection was performed with a variable wavelength UV-visible de
tector at 270 mn, resulting in detection limits of 0.2 ng per 20 CLL i
njection. For the quantitative determination, hydroflumethazide (HFM)
was used as internal standard at a concentration of 4.08 ng/mu L. A re
ctilinear relationship was observed up to 20 ng/mu L. Analysis time wa
s less than 6 min. Copyright (C) 1998 by Marcel Dekker, Inc.
