At the November 1997 meeting of the AVMA Council on Biologic and Thera
peutic Agents, the Council recommended that the JAVMA publish an artic
le on the current status of the use of serologic testing in an effort
to assist practitioners who must make decisions regarding vaccination
of companion animals (ie, dogs, cats, and horses). It is anticipated t
hat the peer-reviewed article provided here will be of benefit to vete
rinarians and will facilitate their attempts to maintain animal health
through the knowledgeable use of vaccines.
