Dj. Cheng et al., ELECTROMAGNETIC SCATTERING RESPONSE FROM A UNIAXIAL CHIRAL CYLINDER BY USING CYLINDRICAL VECTOR WAVE-FUNCTIONS, SCI CHINA E, 41(3), 1998, pp. 255-262
Based on the concept of characteristic waves and the method of angular
spectral expansion, eigenfunction expansion of the electromagnetic wa
ves scattering in uniaxial chiral medium is derived in terms of the ve
ctor wave functions. It is revealed that the solution of the source-fr
ee vector wave equation for uniaxial chiral medium is composed of two
transverse waves and a longitudinal wave. Numerical results for the el
ectromagnetic scattering response from a uniaxial chiral cylinder are
simulated. It is shown that uniaxial chirality has significant effect
on scattering characteristics of the scatterer. On examining the frequ
ency-dependence of the backward echo width, it is shown that the uniax
ial chiral cylinder can be employed to construct reflection-reduction
curved surface in a wide-band frequency.
