Described are two new ferrocenes, each containing two different straps
linking the pair of cyclopentadienyl rings. The first, Fe(C5H3)(2)-1,
1'-S-3-3,3'-C2Me4, was characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffracti
on and shown by H-1 NMR studies to consist of two slowly interconverti
ng conformers, one of which crystallized. The second new compound, Fe(
C5H3)(2)-1,1'-S-3-3,3'-C3H6, is shown to exist as four conformers that
differ in terms of the orientation of the trisulfido and the trimethy
lene linker groups.
