Nascent O(D-1) and O(P-3) photoproducts from the photodissociation of
O-3, an state-selectively detected in a flow cell, using a technique o
f vacuum-ultraviolet laser-induced fluorescence. Doppler profiles of t
he O(D-1) atoms are measured in the photodissociation of O-3 at 193, 2
30, and 266 nm, and those of the O(P-3) atoms at 193, 266 and 308 nm.
The translational energy and the speed-resolved spatial angular distri
butions;Ire derived from the Doppler profiles, from which photodissoci
ation dynamics at each wavelength is discussed. The photodissociation
dynamics in the Hartley band is characterized by the spin-allowed phot
odissociation processes from the O-3(B-1(2)) state. Below the blue end
of the Hartley band, the photoexcitation process is mainly perpendicu
lar transition. Multiple peaks observed in the translational energy di
stribution of O(D-1) and O(P-3) photoproducts from the photodissociati
on of O-3 at 193 nm are attributed to multiple dissociation processes
accessible energetically. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights re
