V. Bogdanic et al., TREATMENT OF CHRONIC MYELOID-LEUKEMIA IN RELAPSE AFTER UMBILICAL-CORDBLOOD TRANSPLANTATION, Haematologica, 83(6), 1998, pp. 575-576
Umbilical cord blood (UCB) is increasingly used as a source of hematop
oietic progenitor cells for allotransplantation. Donor-derived buffy c
oat cells are considered optimal treatment for leukemia relapses after
transplantation of allogeneic bone marrow. Experience with relapses a
fter UCB transplants are sparse. Here we report a girl who received an
UCB transplant for chronic myeloid leukemia, relapsed after three yea
rs, failed to respond to donor huffy coat cells, but achieved a comple
te hematologic, cytogenetic, and molecular remission on interferon-alp
ha.
