Abstract
Readily available trans-2,3-dibenzylbutyrolactones are converted in hi gh yields via 4-hydroxycyclohexa-2,6-dienones into dibenzocyclooctene lignans by treatment with phenyliodonium diacetate in aqueous methanol followed by trifluoroacetic acid.
