The Lebedev Physics Institute of the Academy of Sciences, whose deep r
oots lie in the scientific and technical heritage of Russia, assumed i
ts present appearance in the 1930s to 1950s. Those were the years of t
he creation and rapid development of nuclear physics in a broad sense,
and especially of high-energy physics. The contribution of the Instit
ute to this field of science, which has won wide international recogni
