In this paper, a brief introduction is given to some statistical aspec
ts of PAC (probably approximately correct) learning theory. It is show
n that there is a close connection between the principal results in PA
C learning theory and those in empirical process theory, the latter be
ing a well-established branch of probability theory. The main results
in each area are summarized without proofs, and the reader is directed
