Trichotobia gracilis was described by Kistner et al. (1997) from a spe
cimen which was missing the posterior end of the abdomen. The genus wa
s placed in the subtribe Aenictobiina of the tribe Lomechusini, I woul
d not ordinarily describe a new genus and species from a defective spe
cimen, but an exception was made because the species contained trichom
es on the abdomen, a condition which is truly exceptional among army a
nt guests. Since then an additional 3 specimens were captured at the t
ype locality, and from the same host by Ulrich Maschwitz, This additio
nal series permits the description of the missing parts.
