Va. Yakovlev et al., OPENING OF THE BENZENE NUCLEUS AT NORMAL TEMPERATURE BY THE ACTION OFLANTHANIDES AND D-TRANSITION METALS UNDER MECHANICAL ACTIVATION CONDITIONS, Petroleum chemistry (1991), 37(6), 1997, pp. 475-483
A study has been made of reactions of aromatic hydrocarbons (AHC) - be
nzene, toluene, o-xylene, cumene, naphthalene - with metal lanthanides
(Nd, Pr, Gd, Eu, Tb) and d-transition metals (Ni, Ti, V) under condit
ions of mechanical activation at 20 degrees C. It was established that
, under the conditions adopted, opening of the aromatic nucleus occurs
with the formation of carbene active centres, leading to the producti
on of polyconjugated polymers. Organometallic compounds and carbene co
mplexes of metals are also formed. The possible mechanism of the react
ions taking place is discussed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rig
