Abstract
Fumigation of hardwood logs effectively prevented non-microbial sapwoo d discolorations (graystain) and sticker shadow in a mill trial of whi te ash, sugar hackberry, and red oak in Mississippi. Lumber downgradin g (due to non-microbial staining) was reduced from 40 to 0 percent for white ash, 68 to 7 percent for sugar hackberry, and sapwood graystain was eliminated from red oak (as compared to 100% presence in controls ).
