OLIGO-NICOTINATED SESQUITERPENE POLYESTERS FROM MAYTENUS-ILICIFOLIA

Five novel oligo-nicotinated sesquiterpene polyesters based on a dihyd roagarofuran core, cangorins A [1], B [2], C [3], D [4], and E [5], ha ve been isolated from Maytenus ilicifolia. H-1- and C-13-nmr spectrosc opic studies, mainly 2D experiments including heteronuclear correlatio n, long range correlation, and nOe spectra, and mass spectral data rev ealed their structures containing some nicotinyl, benzoyl, and acetyl groups as esterifying moieties. The presence of two or three nicotinyl groups in the sesquiterpene core is characteristic of cangorins.
