We describe a numerical method applied to the first-order form of one-
speed slab-geometry discrete ordinates equations modelling time-indepe
ndent neutron transport problems with anisotropic scattering, with no
interior source and defined in a nonmultiplying homogeneous host mediu
m. Our numerical method is concerned with the generation of the spectr
um and of a vector basis for the null space of the one-speed slab-geom
etry discrete ordinates operator. Moreover, it allows us to overcome t
he difficulties introduced in previous methods by anisotropic scatteri
ng and by angular quadrature sets of high order. To illustrate the pos
itive features of our numerical method, we present numerical results f
or one-speed slab-geometry neutron transport model problems with aniso
