Abstract
The dynamic safety system (DSS) is a computer based reactor protection system that has dynamic self-testing feature and fail-safe nature inh erently. The dynamic self-testing and fail-safe features provide a hig h level of reliability and low spurious trip rate. The time and human efforts maintaining the system can also be reduced by virtue of those features. In order to apply the DSS for PWR, however, some modificatio n is required because there exist many differences between PWR and AGR for which the DSS was first tested and installed. These differences a re trip algorithms, monitored parameters, trip logics, and other condi tions. In this work, the DSS algorithm is modified for PWR. The modifi ed DSS has several new features which are required for applying DSS te chnology to PWR. Then, the modified DSS is implemented in a programmab le logic controller (PLC) and tested. It is shown that, from the resul ts, the modified DSS generates correct output in all test cases. (C) 1 998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
