A novel method for the transmutation of Kr-85 is presented. The isotop
e Kr-85 is one of the important long-lived fission products. This meth
od can be utilized in part for nuclear waste disposal of long-lived fi
ssion products. The method is based on transmutating Kr-85 with a 10.7
56 year half-life into K-85m(r) with a half-life of 4.48 h. The transm
