J. Malo et al., A CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CHIRONOMID FAUNA (DIPTERA) IN SOUTHERN PORTUGAL, Annales de Limnologie, 34(2), 1998, pp. 165-170
For the first time, a faunal list of 89 species of Chironomidae is pre
sented for the South of Portugal, using data from drift samples taken
in 12 rivers and streams. 35 species of Chironomidae are new for Portu
gal. The more important biogeographic result is the appearance of vari
ous mediterranean species -as Paramerina spec. Griechenland, Tanytarsu
s Pe23 Langton 1991 and Virgatanytarsus albisutus-; this last specie w
as not previously known from the Iberian Peninsula.
