Using differential staining methods while hormone producing cells were
demonstrated in the pars distalis adenohypophysis of 52 buffaloes of
either ser: and aged I week to adult, the occurrence of bihormonal cel
ls including the somaromammotrophs; FSH-LH and ACTH-LH cells was evide
nced. They were relatively more frequent in older animals. Different t
ypes of secretary granules within the same cell were either intermingl
ed, or were intermixed in one of its part and localized single in the
other part, or they were localized separately in its different parts.
Their possible significance has been discussed.
