Abstract
The N,N-diethylmonothiocarbamates of the group 12 elements Zn, Cd and Hg were synthesized by metathetic reactions between metallic salts and [Et2NH2], [S(O)CNEt2] in deoxygenated solvents. The mercury complex cr ystallized in the trigonal system (hexagonal setting) space group R-3 (NO. 148). The crystal consists of hexameric [Hg{S(O)CNEt2}(2)](6) clu sters, each of which is held together by intermolecular Hg-S and Hg-O bonds (respectively 3.1200(13) and 2.777(3) Angstrom in length) betwee n monomers in which the ligand coordinates to the metal via covalent H g-S bonds and weak intramolecular Hg-O interactions. The coordination polyhedron around the Hg atom can be considered as a highly distorted octahedron. The IR and H-1, C-13 and Cd-113 or Hg-199 nmr spectra of t he compounds are also discussed.
