CYCLOMETALATION REACTION OF 1,1'-BIS[1-ARYLIMINO)ETHYL]FERROCENES WITH PLATINUM(II)

The reaction of 1,1'-bis[1-(arylimino)ethyl]ferrocenes with cis-Pt(DMS O)(2)Cl-2 in refluxing toluene and in the presence of NaOAc leads to m eso and dl stereoisomers of biscyclometallated diplatinum complexes. S ome individual stereoisomers were isolated successfully by column chro matography. The composition and the structure of the metallocycles wer e characterized by elemental analysis, IR and H-1 NMR spectroscopy. A mechanism for the formation of stereoisomers in the cycloplatination r eaction is suggested. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserv ed.
