The partial cross sections for the Li-6+C-12 and Li-6+C-13 reactions b
elow and above the Coulomb barrier energy have been determined from th
e cross sections of the characteristic gamma-rays measured with HPGe d
etectors and using the branching factor sigma(gamma)/sigma(ch) obtaine
d from the statistical model calculations. The fusion cross sections o
btained from the sum of these partial cross sections are found to be e
qual to the total reaction cross sections upto an energy well above th
e Coulomb barrier energy and there appears to be no evidence for limit
ation of fusion cross sections for these systems at such energies cont
rary to the evaporation residue measurements. The measured cross secti
ons are also found to agree nicely with the IWBC (Incoming Wave Bounda
ry Condition) and one-dimensional BPM (Barrier Penetration Model) calc
ulation. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
