A. Elnaas et al., MURINE ENCEPHALITOZOONOSIS AND KIDNEY LESIONS IN SOME SLOVAK LABORATORY-ANIMAL BREEDING CENTERS, Helminthologia, 35(2), 1998, pp. 107-110
One hundred and thirty-two mice from five laboratory colonies were ran
domly examined for seropositivity to Encephalitozoon cuniculi and its
relationship to the occurrence of kidney lesions was correlated. The i
ndirect immunofluorescent antibody test was performed. The samples rea
cted at dilutions between 1 : 64 and 1 : 2048, inclusive. Twenty mice
were found to be seropositive in two colonies and the others in three
colonies showed seronegative reactions. Histological changes were seen
in 80 % of E. cuniculi-seropositive animals. The results show a corre
lation between seropositivity and kidney lesions in infected animals.
