Abstract
This article describes the results of a survey of formulary managers r egarding policies and practices relevant to biotechnology medicines. T he objectives of the survey were to 1) classify major strategies for c ontrolling current expenditures on biotechnology drugs within managed care plans, 2) categorize their future strategies, and 3) identify the perceived effectiveness of strategies currently in use. Results from the survey suggest that the evolving sophistication of formulary manag ement is a major factor that must be taken into consideration early in clinical research efforts, as well as in the design of clinical trial s.
