Chemically modified field effect transistors (CHEMFETs) with ion-selec
tive membranes which incorporate lipophilic uranyl salophene derivativ
es exhibit H2PO4- selectivities strongly deviating from the Hofmeister
series. Selectivity is obtained over much more lipophilic anions such
as NO3- (logK(H2PO4,NO3)(Pot) = - 1.3) and Cl- (logK(H2PO4,Cl)(Pot) =
- 1.8). Modification of the uranyl salophene derivatives with additio
nal hydrogen bond accepting methoxy substituents results in lowered de
tection limits and an improved selectivity over Cl-, Br-, SO42- and OH
