Anthropological field research involves unique circumstances in which
professional social scientists work with local communities. The relati
onships between researchers and communities are negotiated on a contin
uing basis, whether for short-term, or long-term projects. The article
s appearing in this special section of Human Organization focus on how
changing relationships between scholars and communities demand that w
e sharpen our awareness of ethical precepts - and honor them - in the
context of applied anthropology.
