Abstract
Anthropological field research involves unique circumstances in which professional social scientists work with local communities. The relati onships between researchers and communities are negotiated on a contin uing basis, whether for short-term, or long-term projects. The article s appearing in this special section of Human Organization focus on how changing relationships between scholars and communities demand that w e sharpen our awareness of ethical precepts - and honor them - in the context of applied anthropology.
