Abstract
In this paper we deal with a genuinely clamped beam, that is, when the beam is not only clamped at both ends but also at a neighbourhood of them. We present models for genuinely clamped beams in linear and nonl inear elasticity obtained from the three-dimensional problem by asympt otic expansion methods. We also obtain the convergence of these models to the usual clamped beam models as the clamping zone reduces to the ends of the beam. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A.
