Two new pentavalent molybdenum chloromonophosphates, KMoOPO4Cl and RbM
oOPO4Cl, have been synthesized. They crystallize in the p4/nmm space g
roup with a = b = 6.4340(5) and c = 7.2715(9) Angstrom for the potassi
um compound and a = b = 6.4551(8) and c = 7.4612(8) Angstrom for the r
ubidium compound. Their original structure consists of [MoPO5Cl](infin
ity), layers parallel to (001), whose cohesion is ensured by K+ or Rb ions. The chloride ions and the alkali metal cations form a puckered
rock salt layer. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
