We propose a new method for measurement of temperature in high tempera
ture air using LIF (laser-induced fluorescence) of Oz molecules excite
d by a broad band ArF excimer laser. In this method, temperature can b
e measured by using temperature dependence of ratios between fluoresce
nce intensities integrated over two spectral regions including spectra
l peaks. The theoretical broadband spectra of O-2 molecules are calcul
ated and compared with the experimental ones of static hot air (300 K-
l 100 K) inside an electric furnace. Temperatures measured by this met
hod agree with those measured by a thermocouple within about +/-100 K
at a temperature below 1 000 K.
