Hypersonic projectiles were fired into CO-O-2 and CO-O-2-H-2 gas mixtu
res. For observation of combustion phenomena around the projectiles, w
e employed a highspeed framing schlieren technique. When we used CO-O-
2 mixtures as combustible gases, no shock-induced combustion was obser
ved. However, addition of a small amount of H-2 into the CO-O-2 mixtur
es enabled combustion. We experimentally investigated the dependence o
f combustion phenomena on the molar fraction of H-2 in the CO-O-2-H-2
gas mixtures. The high-speed framing schlieren technique made it possi
ble to observe and discuss unsteady shock-induced combustion phenomena
