Interactive video has been identified as a potential delivery medium f
or psychotherapy. Interactive video may restrict the range of both ver
bal and non-verbal communication and consequently impede the developme
nt of a therapeutic relationship, thus influencing the process and out
come of therapy. A single case study explored the feasibility of the p
rovision of cognitive behaviour therapy using interactive video with a
client diagnosed as having mixed anxiety and depressive disorder. A r
ange of outcome measures were included together with an independent ps
ychiatric assessment prior to, and on completion of, therapy. Differen
t levels of outcome were also examined: clinical, social, user views a
nd administration. Outcome measures indicated a reduction in psychopat
hology and some modification of dysfunctional attitudes, with no appar
ent impairment of the working alliance.
