Abstract
The instability of a spatial subharmonic grating during photorefractiv e hologram recording is investigated theoretically. It is shown that s uch instability arises in crystals if the electron drift length in the external field exceeds the fundamental grating period. Cases with dc and ac external fields are considered. The influence of diffusion and trap charge saturation is examined.
