Several thousand tons of medical herbs are produced annually by pharma ceutical industry in Poland, This product should be of highest quality and microbial purity. Recently, chemical methods of decontamination a re recognized as less safe, thus irradiation technique was chosen to r eplace them in use. In the Institute of Nuclear Chemistry and Technolo gy the national program on the application of irradiation to the decon tamination of medical herbs is in progress non. The purpose of the pro gram is to elaborate. on the basis of research work, the facility stan dards and technological instructions indispensable for the practice of radiation technology.
