The paper summarizes the results obtained with participation of the au
thors from the study on the use of liquid and solid solutions of tetra
zolium salts of different origin for dosimetry of ionizing radiation.
The dosimetric systems based on the aerated solutions of some tetrazol
ium salts with nitro groups (for example, 2-(p-nitrophenyl)-3,5-diphen
yltetrazolium chloride) in water-alcohol mixture which are suitable fo
r measurement of doses from 1-5 to 50 Gy are described in detail. The
application of poly(vinyl alcohol) films containing different tetrazol
ium salts for determination of doses from 0.5-25 kGy is considered tho
roughly. The special attention was paid to the development of the film
s as color dose indicators with comparatively high stability to the ac
tion of day-light. It was achieved with the film containing -bianisile
ne-4,4'-bis(2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium) chloride (blue tetrazolium).
