A numerical analysis of the second member of a hierarchy of SU(2) Higg
s models, the first member of which is the Georgi-Glashow model in the
Prasad-Sommerfield limit, is presented. The model supports non-self-d
ual monopole solutions. The masses of these monopoles are computed as
functions of 3 dimensionless coupling constants in the model, and it i
s found that for certain values of the coupling constants the monopole
is very close to the self-dual field configuration. (C) 1998 Elsevier
