In this paper, an attempt is made to estimate heat flux densities acco
rding to various methods for a wet and a dry soil profile. Primary dat
a are soil temperature measurements in various depths (2, 5, 10, 20, 5
0 cm). Data concerning the soil texture and composition as well as dat
a referring to the soil moisture profile for the selected days of this
study are also available. Estimates of heat flux densities obtained t
hrough the various methods used are compared with actual heat flux den
sities, as these are measured at the depths of 2 and 10 cm into the so
il profile. The comparison has been encouraging and therefore heat flu
x densities calculation methods may be used for following heat flow in
to the soil profile. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
