Abstract
Planar chiral alpha-substituted ferrocenecarboxaldehydes were treated with samarium diiodide to give stereoselectively pinacol coupling prod ucts with a threo-configuration in good yields. The resulting dihydrox yl of the product was substituted with stereochemical inversion by an S(N)l reaction. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
