A fungus causing necrosis and needle cast has been discovered on fir t
rees (Abies alba), in stands at 1700 m above sea level in Yugoslavia.
The intensity of infection was very high, and the needles of all age c
lasses were infected. The consequence of the Infection is the death of
the tree. The pathogen is described as a nem species Tiarosporella du
rmitorensis Karadzic. So far, this fungus has been round only in Europ
ean silver iir stands in the National Park Durmiror and in the Nationa
l Park Biogradska Gora (Montenegro).
