O. Maestri et al., VARIATIONS OF PROTEIN PROFILES UPON SHIFTS IN INORGANIC CARBON REGIMEIN THE CYANOBACTERIUM SYNECHOCYSTIS PCC6803, FEMS microbiology letters, 164(1), 1998, pp. 177-185
Reversible changes between limiting and high inorganic carbon regimes
ir Synechocystis PCC6803 maintained overall protein synthesis at a hig
h level. The protein patterns of cells during or after adaptation to t
hese regimes were detected by pulse labelling and identification after
one-dimensional and two-dimensional electrophoreses. Several particul
ar patterns were observed. Proteins specific for either the high or th
e limiting carbon conditions could be identified. The protein profiles
of cells having reached the stationary phase of growth clearly differ
ed from those of their exponentially growing counterparts. Accumulatio
n of Rubisco, the key enzyme of the Calvin cycle, was not modified in
the conditions tested. (C) 1998 Federation of European Microbiological
