This paper deals with a high-rated-voltage specialty polymer capacitor
(SPC) which is a kind of aluminum solid electrolytic capacitor using
electropolymerized polypyrrole (PPB) as an electrolyte. We found that
PPy doped with alkylphosphate (AP) gives a much higher breakdown volta
ge to SPC than PPy doped with alkylnaphthalenesulfonate (ANS) which ha
s currently been used as the electrolyte. We improved the poor environ
mental stability of PPy doped with AP by partial replacing the dopant
with ANS. We developed a 35 V-rated-voltage SPC in which PPy doped tog
ether with AP and ANS was used as the electrolyte. The SPC had also ex
cellent frequency characteristics and reliability.
