The chemical composition of the scale forming on R6M5 steel before and
after high-temperature oxidation at 900 degrees C is investigated by
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The phase composition is calculated;
the valence states of the cations and their distribution over tetrahe
dral and octahedral positions of the spinel structure are determined.
