Latinos invariably live in substandard housing in high crime and distr
essed areas of large urban locations. Social workers and other human s
ervices professionals, in turn, are well acquainted with all of the ph
ysical signs associated with life in these areas of a city. Murals, ho
wever, have not received sufficient attention in the professional lite
rature. This article examines murals painted by Latino youths from a p
erspective of community strengths and assets and raises implications f
or the field of social work.
