Abstract
A model for the effective moment of inertia I-e as a substitute for Br anson's equation, which is parr of the ACI and many other codes, is pr esented. As the model considers the effects of loading type and intens ity as well as the reinforcement ratio, it is shown to be substantiall y more accurate than Branson's equation. In addition, by integrating a n approximation of the cracked moment of inertia I-cr into the model, rile derailed and lengthy calculation of I-cr is eliminated and a simp le graphical representation of the model is possible.
