Abstract
We have recorded X-ray magnetic circular dichroism at Pt L-2,L-3-edges in thin-film and bulk samples of MnPt3 or CoPt intermetallic compound . To compare magnetic properties of Pt atom, orbital and spin magnetic moments were separately evaluated through the magneto-optical sum rul es; as a result, the orbital contribution to the magnetic property is almost same in both thin-film and bulk samples. Hence, a large magneto -optical effect is not directly connected with magnitude of orbital mo ment. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
