Abstract
Trichoptilosis (''split ends'') was diagnosed in three Golden Retrieve rs and was characterized by multifocal areas of unevenly broken hairs. the condition was idiopathic in one dog, and associated with the use of a flea spray in the other two dogs. This may represent an inherent hairshaft weakness in these dogs, two of which were littermates.
