Abstract
This article describes the current state of standardization activities at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and discusses the future reforms being considered by this international de jure standar ds body amid a vastly changing environment, including global trends to ward the privatization of telecommunications carriers and the introduc tion of free competition.
