Abstract
The problem of state selection when multiple metastable states compete for occupation is considered for systems obeying a one-dimensional st ochastic time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation in which a control pa rameter is ramped in time. The dynamics of the supercurrent in a narro w superconducting ring under the influence of an external electric fie ld is used for illustration.
